Mental Health Awareness Week has come to a close and two Kent mums have urged those suffering after giving birth to speak up
The darkest time for new mum Kilvara Cruickshank was when she got so sick from breastfeeding her new-born daughter Sophiara that she no-longer had the strength to look after her.
Kilvara, who lives in Swalecliffe, nestled between Herne Bay and Whitstable, said: “When I got ill I got really down. I didn’t think I could look after my baby.
“I remember crying in my mum’s kitchen because I felt so s*** that I needed my mum to look after her. I wanted to look after her. I didn’t want to give her to someone else.”
The 28-year-old went to stay with her mum Deborah when it got too much. The antibiotics she had been prescribed were not working and she was initially refused an appointment with a consultant.
After a seemingly endless battle to be heard, Kilvara finally got a referral from her GP.
