After causing ten days of disruption on Kent’s roads the protesters moved on to Dover
Early this morning, climate group Insulate Britain announced they would be bringing their protest to the Port of Dover.
The group said they were coming to the town to highlight that fuel poverty is killing people in Dover and across the UK.
Insulate Britain has been causing disruption for motorists in Kent and around the M25 with their peaceful sit-ins that have blocked off major routes.
I went down to Europe’s largest port to see the protesters in action, and to gauge the reaction from the many lorry drivers and commuters trying to make their way through Dover…
At 9.30am, on a beautiful morning in Dover, freight traffic and cars are backed-up from the roundabout at the eastern docks, all the way up to the Western Heights roundabout, towards Aycliffe.
As I make my way down the procession of stationary vehicles, it’s clear nobody is going anywhere for now.
People have mostly abandoned their cars and are standing around in small groups, or talking on their phones, bemused at what is going on.
Rachel Wheeler, from Folkestone, is one such person, standing by her silver coupe. bringing their protest to the Port of Dover.
